Some 2.7 million visitors went to National Heritage Board museums last year, which is 100,000 fewer than the record high of 2.8 million in 2009. The attendance for outreach events, however, hit an unprecedented 8.8 million, a 28 per cent increase from 2009's 6.9 million. The board attributes the spike to an increase in the number of travelling exhibitions and programmes that were held at community centres, libraries and shopping centres.
