[CNA] Banks to continue hiring in 2011

SINGAPORE: The growing affluence in Asia has spurred banks in financial centres like Singapore to continue beefing up their hiring this year. Experts say this will especially be in key sectors like wealth and investment management. But tightening measures on property markets across the region may likely cause banks to pay less attention in expanding their mortgage lending segment, analysts said. And despite rising staff costs, the prospects of profit growth from the wealth business would mean that major banks will not hesitate to continue investing in talent. Singapore has positioned itself as a key financial services hub, with the demand for wealth management and private banking services growing in the region.
