LONDON - Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he ignored advice from the government's top lawyer warning that attacking Iraq would be illegal without further United Nations backing because the guidance was "provisional". Mr Blair was speaking at the country's inquiry into the Iraq war on Friday, after witnesses raised doubts about sections of his testimony from a year ago when he made a defiant defence of the decision to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Mr Blair "held to the position" that another UN Security Council resolution explicitly supporting military action was unnecessary despite being told the opposite by Attorney- General Lord Goldsmith. Lord Goldsmith told Mr Blair in a six-page draft legal opinion on Jan 14, 2003, that Resolution 1441, which declared Iraq in "material breach" of its obligations to disarm, was not enough on its own to justify...
