PM Lee warns of tight labour market: SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said businesses in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said businesses in Singapore have to adjust to a tightening labour market. While the government can let in some foreign workers, he said it cannot expand their numbers without limit. Mr Lee was speaking at the annual Lunar New Year Dinner at his Teck Ghee constituency in Ang Mo Kio GRC. Mr Lee said that there is more to celebrate this year, as the exceptional 15 percent GDP growth in 2010 means good bonuses for workers and better business for shopowners. While growth may slow down this year to about 4 to 6 percent, according to official estimates, Mr Lee warned that small businesses may face a labour shortage as the economy continues to expand.
