Maid accused of stealing S$400,000 in what would be the largest ever theft by a domestic helper from an employer
SINGAPORE - A maid has been hauled to court for allegedly stealing what is believed to be the largest amount a domestic helper has ever stolen from an employer. Indian national, Kirandeep Kaur, 25, is accused of stealing more than S$400,000 worth of cash and valuables from a flat at Block 80 Holland Road on Mar 28. She allegedly made off with items including cash amounting to more than S$31,000 and five diamond bangles worth S$124,000 in all. She also allegedly stole six watches, three jewellery sets and 18 pieces of jewellery like gold chains and rings. Kaur was charged with the offence earlier this month and her case has been adjourned to Nov 2. If convicted of theft, she can be jailed up to seven years and fined.
