Music pioneer Paul Abisheganaden dies at age 97

Pioneering conductor Paul Abisheganaden, who founded one of Singapore's first string ensembles and nurtured generations of musicians in schools and the National University of Singapore (NUS), died at age 97 on Wednesday at the National University Hospital. -- ST PHOTO: CAROLINE CHIA By Akshita Nanda Pioneering conductor Paul Abisheganaden, who founded one of Singapore's first string ensembles and nurtured generations of musicians in schools and the National University of Singapore (NUS), died at age 97 on Wednesday at the National University Hospital. A widower, he is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His second-oldest daughter, retired lawyer Ruth Chia, 69, says the Cultural Medallion recipient succumbed to pneumonia. A formal service will be held on Sept 3 at 2.45pm at St Andrew's Cathedral, where he served for years as a choir ...
