Soy sauce prices may rise after September

SINGAPORE: The price of soy sauce may go up by about 15 per cent after September, according to local factories based in Singapore. The price of soy beans, the main ingredient in both light and dark soy sauce, has been rising in recent years and it is said to have gone up by more than 50 per cent in the past year. This, amid rising costs for other raw materials like flour, sugar, salt and even packaging materials. While the strong Singapore dollar has helped to ease the rise in production cost, local factories say it has also hurt exports to some degree. As a result, they may raise prices of soy sauce after September. The prices of chilli sauce and tomato sauce are expected to remain stable with the strong Singapore dollar as they are mostly imported.
