The government and family #philanthropy in Asia:

At the end of last year, business school INSEAD and UBS teamed up to study the dynamics of family philanthropy in Asia. We focused on 10 places - China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. One of our findings related to the profoundly important impact of government policies and actions on family giving across the continent. Governments take on a large set of social responsibilities that could also be fulfilled by the private sector either on a for-profit or not-for-profit basis. Governments may decide to simply regulate a sector or to both regulate and be an actor in the sector. As an actor, the Government could decide to take on exclusive responsibility or share responsibility with the private sector.
