I still wake up in the middle of the night trying to understand what is happening to me. Why this is happening to me. I lie in bed listening to the sound of my family sleeping and the steady hum of guilt in my mind. I worry my illness is a burden to my family and friends - I constantly demand their time, energy and petty attention to abate my numerous anxieties and vanities. I should have bought better insurance, I think. Will there be enough money? Maybe I should never have gone for that check-up? I was 26 years old, healthy, happy and living in New York City.
