SINGAPORE - Both Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Minister Yaacob Ibrahim came out yesterday to clear the air over comments recorded in leaked United States' diplomatic cables as the WikiLeaks saga once again made waves in cyberspace here. Mr Lee clarified statements about Islam that had been attributed to him, while Dr Yaacob set the record straight about the citizenship status of his children. Mr Lee said the claim in a cable released by WikiLeaks that he had "characterised Islam as a 'venomous religion' " was "false". In the statement, Mr Lee said he had looked up the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' filenote of the meeting between him and then US Senator Hillary Clinton, which took place on July 2005 in Singapore, and "nowhere" did it record him describing Islam as "venomous".
