MPA to conduct ferry rescue exercise: SINGAPORE: More than 400 personnel from nine agencies will participate in
SINGAPORE: More than 400 personnel from nine agencies will participate in this year's Ferry Rescue Exercise (FEREX) on Wednesday. The annual exercise, which is organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), aims to test the readiness of the various parties in the event of a ferry mishap. MPA said the scenario for the 2011 exercise involves a fire breaking out in a domestic ferry's main engines. The ferry is headed towards Marina South Pier from Kusu Island and has 80 passengers and six crew members onboard. MPA said the public should not be unduly alarmed by the increase in the number of vehicles and personnel entering Pulau Brani on the day of the exercise.
