SINGAPORE: Singapore's manufacturing output rose nine per cent from a year earlier in December, according to figures released by the Economic Development Board (EDB). This compares with analyst expectations for 19 per cent growth. Output was also much lower than in November, when production rose 39.8 per cent year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, output declined 11.8 per cent in December, after a surprise 1.1 per cent expansion in November. Economists had expected output to contract by 3.2 per cent month-on-month. Biomedical industries acted as a drag on output. The output in this segment grew just 1.2 per cent from a year earlier in December, slowing from a staggering 166.7 per cent growth in November. The EDB attributed the slowdown to a pullback in pharmaceutical output, which took a hit as factories produced a different mix of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Prod...
