S'pore Manufacturing Dec 2010: Up 9% year-on-year #manufacturing

Total manufacturing output grew 9 per cent in Dec 2010, the Singapore Economics Development Board said. -- PHOTO: AFP MANUFACTURING output in Singapore grew only 9 per cent last month compared with the same month last year, coming in well below the 20 per cent jump that economists had expected. The underperformance was largely due to a large pull-back in biomedical manufacturing, which increased only 1.2 per cent last month over a year ago, according to data released by the Economic Development Board (EDB) on Tuesday. This was significantly less than the 166.7 per cent surge that the cluster saw in November. Electronics production also weakened. It grew 9 per cent last month, down from 25 per cent in November, the EDB said. On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, the manufacturing sector shrank 11.8 per cent last month compared with November. Excluding biomedical ma...
