Data-storage industry resilient

SINGAPORE: The data storage industry has shown resilience and seemed quite immune to the current global economic difficulties. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the worldwide external disk storage systems market grew 12.2 per cent to US$5.6 billion in the second quarter this year compared to a year ago. And as digital information continues to grow at an exponential rate, more industry players are moving into the cloud-computing space to manage this data deluge. IDC's 2011 Digital Universe Study, sponsored by EMC, highlights that the world's information more than doubles every two years, which is equivalent to the amount of information needed to fill almost 58 billion 32 gigabyte apple iPads.
