China's growth unlikely to save world from recession: analysts

SINGAPORE : China's economic growth appears to be slowing, with industrial production moderating to 13.5 per cent in August. This supports the view that China has not decoupled from the faltering Western economies. Going forward, analysts said that while Chinese consumption may help engineer a soft landing for the domestic economy, it is unlikely to save the rest of the world. Although latest economic data from China showed that there could be some headway with consumer prices easing last month, analysts warned that it could be too early to claim victory over inflation. China's consumer price index for the month of August moderated to 6.2 per cent, versus 6.5 per cent in July. Connie Tse, regional economist at Forecast, said: "I still see a high upside risk for a rebound, mainly because the fundamentals that have contributed to inflationary pressure have not really changed...
