The new Lemon Laws proposed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) are some of the best news consumers have had for a long time. Finally, there's a way to get your money back when something you buy doesn't work. And now is the time to tell MTI how to make the new laws even better. While many people here may complain about not having a chance to influence public policy, MTI has specifically said it is "seeking feedback on the proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act". It's easy to be cynical about whether feedback will be taken into account. Yet, this is an excellent opportunity to weigh in on an issue that affects each of us, and there could well be room for improvement. The proposed Lemon Law does offer a good start.
