Transforming school toilets into quality restrooms

SINGAPORE: Poetry, murals, paintings and photographs are common exhibits in art galleries. But in Northland Primary School, these art pieces are, rather unconventionally, placed in 29 of the school's toilets. It is part of the Sustaining Toilets As Restrooms (STAR) @ North West programme launched by the North West Community Development Council on Thursday morning. It is the first district-level award aimed at transforming school toilets into quality restrooms. At the launch, Mayor of North West District, Dr Teo Ho Pin, said, "STAR @ North West aim to deliver quality restrooms in schools through active engagement of our stakeholders, such as the students, teachers and school cleaners." Sixteen schools in the district have participated in the launch of the programme; nine were awarded the Gold Star for their restroom excellence.
