Singapore's Daphne Tan strikes another silver - TODAYonline

SINGAPORE - All hopes of a gold medal for Team Singapore at the 2011 Women's World Bowling Championships rested on Daphne Tan (picture) on the final day of competition in Hong Kong yesterday. In the end, the 20-year-old had to settle for a silver after a 3-1 loss to United States' Shannon Pluhowsky in the Masters final. Daphne overcame South Korea's Kim Moon-Jeong (3-1) to reach the last eight and duly defeated American bowler Kelly Kulick by the same scoreline to make the top four. Despite starting poorly with a 199 and losing the first game of the semi-final to Denmark's Mai Ginge Jensen, the gutsy Singaporean fought back with scores of 278, 220 and 232 against 214, 206 and 210, respectively, and advanced to a final showdown with Pluhowsky.
