These detentions were made public by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, one day after the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 Al-Qaeda attacks in the United States. The ministry statement said that two of the men, Jumari Kamdi and Samad Subari, are members of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorist organisation. The third, Abdul Majid Kunji Mohammad, is a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
