'No need for alarm' over rise in flu cases - TODAYonline

SINGAPORE - Sales of anti-viral medication and requests from patients for flu vaccinations are on the rise but Singapore Primary Care Respiratory Group chairman Tan Tze Lee reiterated that there is "no need for alarm" following the Health Ministry's latest alert. Attributing the spike to panic and the Chinese New Year holidays - when people will be travelling and are taking precautions against the flu - Dr Tan said: "The illness is generally very mild, even though its symptoms seem severe, being a relatively new strain." Influenza A or H1N1-2009 tends to affect certain groups of people - children below the age of two, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases - more seriously than others, he said. Dr Tan added that Singapore is well-stocked to fight the flu epidemic here. GlaxoSmithKline manufactures Relenza, an anti-viral inhalant to treat flu symptoms....
