SMRT puts up steel fences at 3 of its 4 depots following last month's security breach

A reinforced steel fence has gone up along some parts of the perimeter of the Ulu Pandan depot, and works are ongoing to complete the job. The Bishan depot is up next for similar work on its fence. Over at the Changi depot - the scene of a similar break-in and vandalism incident in May last year - the steel fence is already up. A Fence Intrusion Detection System (Fids) will be in place by month's end. The fencing and the Fids at the three SMRT depots will cost $6 million. Its fourth depot, in Kim Chuan, is underground.
