23% of ICT professionals intend to leave industry: survey

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Infocomm Technology (ICT) appears to be suffering from a shortage of professionals stemming from high turnover and low job satisfaction. Twenty-three per cent of professionals said in a survey that they intend to leave the industry. The industry had some 16,100 vacancies last year but the Infocomm Development Authority expects this number to drop this year. The annual survey of 1,716 ICT professionals and students by the Singapore Computer Society was conducted between November last year and January this year. Unattractive pay package and lack of career advancement opportunities are key reasons why the ICT is short of professionals. One area that was covered extensively in the survey was work-life balance among ICT professionals. The survey showed that 50 per cent of respondents felt they had a higher level of work conflict as compared to their peers...
