JAKARTA - Two passenger trains crashed head-on in Indonesia early on Friday, killing at least three people and leaving many others injured, a railway official said. The accident occurred at around 2.30am local time on the outskirts of Banjar, a village in West Java province, 270km from the capital, Jakarta. Mr Bambang Ervan, a spokesman for the Transportation Ministry, said a passenger train travelling eastward from the city of Bandung collided with a westbound train from Surabaya. "We don't know why they were on the same track," said Mr Ervan. State railway operator PT Kereta Api (PT KA) said that initial investigations revealed that signal error was the cause of the fatal collision between a Mutiara Selatan train and a Kutojaya train at Langen station, Jakarta Post reported.
