Euro falls amid Egypt turmoil

NEW YORK: The euro fell against the dollar on Friday, as investors flocked to the safe-haven dollar amid turmoil in Egypt. The euro fell to $1.3609 at around 2200 GMT down from $1.3730 the day before. The US dollar regained ground "on potentially some safe-haven US dollar buying in the face of the increasing unrest in North Africa," said Michael Hewson of CMC Markets. The greenback however fell against the Japanese currency, down to 82.09 yen versus 82.86 yen the day before, as traders partially reversed a sell-off from Thursday - in the wake of a ratings down grade for the country's debt. The pound fell to $1.5863 from $1.5943, while the dollar was down slightly against the Swiss franc, buying 0.9417 versus 0.9449 on Thursday.
