Ready to own a stake in Man U? The football club gets green light to list on SGX

SINGAPORE - English Premier League football club Manchester United was given the green light on Thursday to list on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), sources told Channel NewsAsia yesterday, although the bourse itself has yet to make an announcement. This means United can now start formal discussions with investors for its initial public offering (IPO) that may raise up to US$1 billion (S$1.2 billion). Singapore investment company Temasek Holdings and billionaire Peter Lim are said to be potential targets. Still, the offering may not be too attractive given that up to two-thirds of the stock offering will likely be issued in the form of preferred shares, analysts said. Mr Gabriel Yap, executive chairman at investment company GCP Global, said: "Basically you will not have voting rights like ordinary shares."
