Helping senior citizens & needy families embrace ICT: SINGAPORE: The government is increasing funding and introd...

SINGAPORE: The government is increasing funding and introducing programmes to get more senior citizens and needy Singaporeans to embrace Infocomm Technology (ICT). Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) will raise the income cap for needy households from the current S$2,500 to S$2,700 from November. He said this will enable more needy households to benefit from owning a brand new computer at an affordable price. About 31,000 households have benefitted from the scheme since it was launched in November 1999. Major-General Chan said more help will also be extended to needy students from households with an income of S$1,800 and below. He said schools will be given more autonomy from the third quarter of this year to buy devices and software to suit the specific learning needs of students from low...
