High-speed KL-Singapore rail project may be privatised

KUALA LUMPUR - THE proposed high-speed rail project between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore may be handled by a private company and not KTM Bhd (KTMB). KTMB president Dr Aminuddin Adnan said the project was a huge endeavour and KTMB might not have the means to implement it. 'Research on the proposed project will be carried out this year by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu),' he said at the KL Sentral station on Friday. Dr Aminuddin added there was a need for an in-depth and detailed research to determine the cost of developing the project and its operational costs. The high-speed rail was cited as one of the 'high-impact' projects that could come about as a result of the Economic Transformation Programme unveiled in September 2010.
