Malaysia detains North-Korean ship for trespassing and flying Malaysia's national flag upside-down

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's coast guard say it has detained mostly Indonesian crew members of a North Korean-registered merchant ship for trespassing and flying Malaysia's national flag upside-down. Commodore Zulkifli Abu Bakar says authorities spotted the MT Yong An anchored off Malaysia's southern coast on Saturday. They discovered the ship had failed to inform authorities that it was travelling through Malaysian waters. Cmdr Zulkifli says the vessel's Indonesian captain and 12 crew members are being questioned. They are mainly Indonesians, except for one Chinese and a Sri Lankan. Cmdr Zulkifli said today that the captain could be charged for provocation if he is found to have intentionally displayed the Malaysian flag wrongly. The charge carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.
