Malaysia police get on Facebook, Twitter - Channel News Asia

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's police force is reaching out to the public via social media in a bid to enhance its public image. A year after its launch, its Facebook page is currently the most popular among the government agencies, and the police chief wants to triple the fan base by next year. Launched in September 2010, the Royal Malaysian Police Facebook page was quite a hit among Malaysians. It offered regular updates on police activities, crime rates, safety tips and traffic reports. To emulate its success, the Inspector General of Police now said they will also begin Tweeting. Social media has become a valuable tool for the Malaysian police to disseminate information quickly and break down barriers.
