China's aviation industry set to take off

BEIJING: China's aviation industry is set to take off in a big way. The country is expected to open up its low altitude airspace completely in 2015 to encourage more flights from private jets. And providers of aircraft services and parts are hoping to tap into that growth. Rishiraj Singh, Director of Business & General Aviation Aerospace (Asia Pacific & China) at Honeywell, said: "Looking at... the short term, (we expect the) 150 business jets in China growing to maybe about 700 in the next five or six years. That itself shows you that the market is growing. So we're putting in place a very stringent after-market customer support strategy in place to support that growth." Honeywell did not give exact figures on its China investment, but the company is a major parts supplier to China's first jumbo jet, the C919.
