China showing signs of Japan-style asset inflation: analysts

SINGAPORE : Experts have said that China is showing signs of Japanese-style asset inflation seen in the 1980s. They said Chinese property prices are now reaching risky levels. Japan experienced a real estate bubble more than 20 years ago, as buyers speculated on commercial properties with cheap credit. China introduced yet another round of property cooling measures just last week to fight off asset inflation. Chinese policymakers further reduced the loan to value (LTV) ratio to 50 per cent from 60 per cent for second homes, while first-time home buyers now grapple with a new LTV ratio of 30 per cent. Shanghai and Chongqing also launched a property tax on high-end homes of 0.4 per cent to 1.2 per cent annually.
