Football: Dalglish keen to keep Torres as Chelsea eye deal

LONDON: Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists his club are determined to keep Fernando Torres, but reports on Monday suggest Chelsea could sign the Spain striker before the transfer window closes. Chelsea are believed to have offered what would be a British record transfer fee of 50 million pounds for Torres, who had a transfer request rejected by the Reds on Friday. Although Dalglish insisted on Monday that Liverpool, who rejected Chelsea's first offer of 35 million pounds, were ready to ignore all bids, it is claimed the improved offer could persuade the club's American owners to change their minds ahead of the 2300GMT transfer deadline.
