Self-storage business booming in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Singapore's self-storage business is booming - and not just because home and office space is getting more expensive. Industry players said it's a young, but fast-growing market driven by the storage needs of individuals and households. But business users, especially start-ups and SMEs, are catching on. For corporate trainer Raj Sandhu, it's all about location. He stores props for his training sessions in a 120-square foot unit in Tanjong Pagar Distripark, which he rents for about S$400 a month. "Where we do our programmes is throughout the whole island, so I can easily access this place in and out in 10 minutes," said Raj. For stationery entrepreneur Yitch Cheng, his 9-square-foot unit is filled with biodegradable scented pencils or "Smencils". Like Raj, he said self-storage works for him because it's scalable.
