Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak pledges no Islamic law in Malaysia

Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak yesterday vowed the federal government will staunchly block any attempts to enforce Islamic law, or hudud, ending a budding debate that has pitted non-Muslim parties against their Muslim allies ahead of elections. The Islamic code is not suitable to be implemented because the government has to be realistic about the country's current situation, Mr Najib told reporters. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin last week expressed support for hudud, which upset Barisan Nasional's Chinese partners. The Malaysian Insider
