SHANGHAI: The Beijing-Shanghai travel route is the most lucrative in China. Thanks to a new high-speed rail link and budget carrier, travellers are being offered more choices ahead of the week-long national holiday. Customers planning to travel between Beijing and Shanghai have more choices now. Travel agencies said the new transport options allow more people to travel the route, which traditionally serves mainly business travellers. Sales for the Beijing-Shanghai packages have risen up to 50 per cent this year, compared to the same period last year. On Ctrip's website, train tickets for the holiday period were sold out more than a week early. Xu Chen, senior manager at Ctrip's vacation department, said: "In the past, the main form of transport between Beijing and Shanghai was the airplane, with a capacity for 7,000 to 8,000 passengers each day.
