PM Lee draws lessons from Qantas fiasco #Singapore

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that Singapore can learn two key lessons from the face-off between Qantas Airlines and its employees – the importance of business competitiveness as well as the close relationship between companies, unions and the government. “It shows how important it is for all companies to be competitive and for employers, unions and government to work closely together to manage the problem,” the prime minister told local media at the end of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on Sunday. Lee noted that Qantas is losing S$266 million a year, has 20 per cent higher operating costs than other airlines and had to ground flights after a row with unions.
