SINGAPORE - The government will spend about S$1 billion over the next five years on programmes and services for persons with disabilities. This is about 20 per cent more compared to the previous Enabling Masterplan. In the area of adult care, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports Sam Tan said more care options will be developed to cater to differing needs, such as group homes where those who can, will be supported to be as independent as possible. More community-based and residential facilities will be built as well. Means-tested subsidies will also be raised for MCYS-funded adult-care community-based and residential services. For example, a lower-income family can receive up to 80 per cent subsidy. This could be up to S$1,400 per month for a residential care home and up to S$765 per month for community-based day care.
