A new standard to help data centres go 'green'

SINGAPORE - A new standard to help data centres reduce their energy consumption, operating cost, and enhance their competitiveness was unveiled yesterday. The Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres is jointly developed by the Information Technology Standards Committee (ITSC), the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and SPRING Singapore. Seven public and private organisations - including 1-Net, the National Library Board, SingTel, Resorts World Sentosa and IBM - have adopted the standard. It specifies the need for management commitment, a green policy, as well as clearly defined roles and responsibilities within the organisation for implementing a green data centre.
