From our reader: HDB flat have become smaller over the years and are increasingly unsuitable for large families.

LAST Saturday's report ("More HDB flats - and at a faster rate") quoted National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan as saying that the announced increase in supply of new HDB flats was intended to help young couples own their homes as soon as possible so they could start a family, which is a national priority. However, the floor area of each type of HDB flat has become smaller over the years and increasingly unsuitable for large families. Is it really necessary to shrink the floor area when we are building our flats ever higher and the blocks ever closer together? More spacious flats would encourage people to have more children.
