[CNA] Pay-TV cross-carriage to begin August 1

[CNA] Pay-TV cross-carriage to begin August 1

SINGAPORE: From August 1, consumers no longer need to rent additional set-top boxes to view exclusive pay-TV content that is not carried by the operator they already subscribe to. This means consumers now have total access to content provided by pay-TV operators in Singapore. This new cross-carriage measure comes about a year after the Media Development Authority started studying feedback on it. The MDA said this measure is aimed at fostering a vibrant pay-TV market for the benefit of consumers and industry. MDA requires the content to be cross-carried in its entirety without modification and at the same price. Previously, fierce bidding for exclusive content among pay-TV operators StarHub and SingTel drove up content costs over the years. With the new measure, both operators have to deliver such content within five working days to consumers who wish to subscribe to it.
