[CNA] 35,000 runners already signed up for StanChart marathon

SINGAPORE: Some 35,000 runners have already registered for this year's Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS), in a record nine days - after registration opened on June 23 at 11am. This means an average of three sign-ups every minute, surpassing 2010's record of 35,000 runners registered over 15 days. The great response shows the success and popularity of the People's Race, said organiser, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC). Some 70,000 runners are expected to take to the streets on December 4 in an event that has seen growing participation over the years. SSC's Senior Director of Sports Business, and Vice-Chairman of the marathon's (SCMS) Organising Committee, David Voth said: "We are constantly surprised and impressed with how the running community in Singapore embrace the SCMS.
