SINGAPORE - AUSTRALIAN Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has urged Myanmar to free 2,000 political prisoners, telling its leaders doing so would transform the world's view of the new government, he said on Saturday. Speaking to reporters in Singapore after a visit to Myanmar, Mr Rudd said he had made a personal plea during a meeting with President Thein Sein for the freedom of other political detainees, following the November release of democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi. 'I made a personal plea to the president... I indicated to him that that single action will have a significant, transformative effect on the international community's attitude to the newly established government,' he said.
