Safe drinking-water guide launched

SINGAPORE: The Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), which opened Monday saw the launch of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) latest guidelines on drinking-water safety. The guidelines are seen as the most authoritative framework on drinking-water quality, and for many countries, they form the basis of national laws and regulations on water. For millions of people, poor access to safe water remains a problem. The latest WHO report aims to address that by including for the first time, details on how to collect and store water safely at home. In the past, WHO guidelines tend to emphasis the safety of water after it's been delivered to the consumer. But in the last decade, there's been a shift towards preventing contaminants from entering the water supply.
