The Republic's youth squads earned local football a small windfall for the 13 goals they scored in the Canon Lion City Cup tournament last month. At an appreciation dinner hosted by sponsors Canon Singapore, the National Football Academy, which they represent, received $13,000 for the nine and four goals the under-15 and under-16 teams scored, respectively, during the cup. The cheque was presented by Andrew Koh, senior director and general manager of Canon's consumer imaging and information products division, to Zainudin Nordin, president of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS). 'The cash award is an acknowledgement that Singapore football is on the right path," said Ridzal Saat, the FAS' deputy director of marketing and competitions.' Ian De Cotta, photo by Wee Teck Hian
