HDB powered by solar energy in future!!

The Housing Board plans to go big on solar energy and is working on its largest single solar-leasing project to date. In the near future, households will be able to buy electricity made from the sun’s energy. Last month, HDB called its largest solar-leasing tender for a company to own and operate panels on 125 blocks in Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang, Serangoon North and Buangkok. The panels are meant to produce 5MW of electricity under optimum conditions, or 5 megawatts-peak (MWp) which is enough to power more than 1,000 4-room HDB flats. For a start, HDB will offset up to 30% of the start-up costs, after which the electricity can be bought for 20 years at a 5% or greater discount off the prevailing market price. This electricity will power lights in corridors and common areas, lifts and water pumps among many other things. Separately, there was a tender in May which served to ge...
